The purpose of the Survey Development Lab (SDL) is to facilitate survey design, measurement and data collection for social, behavioral and population research, specializing in prevention and health promotion research. The primary aim of this core is to provide expert advice and assistance on survey design, format and modality and data collection processes. More specifically, the SDL supports the following services:
• Consultation on survey design
• Assistance in selection of standardized measures
• Consultation in development of new measures (reliability and validation studies)
• Assistance with data collection and field operations protocol development
• Full-service survey development on multiple platforms (paper, electronic, scannable form).
• In-house computer lab for self-service survey development and execution
• Technical assistance with survey development software
• Rental of data collection equipment (PDAs, laptops, tablets) and scannable data processing tools (Teleform) with local and remote (fax-back) options
• Support for data entry and management
The SDL is expressly designed to serve both the academic faculty as well as the community partners to facilitate the conduct of prevention research and is available as a resource to all faculty and trainees at affiliated institutions.

The SDL has a dedicated office space with two dedicated work stations. Both work stations are set up to allow for use of a variety of survey design software packages to facilitate paper-based or computer-based surveys, as well as audio-enhancement. The SDL has a large bank of personal digital assistants (PDAs, or handheld computers), laptops, and related equipment available for rental, as well as the ability to record survey sound files in-house. The SDL also has a resource library of sample protocols for review related to survey development, field protocol, and data management.

- Dr. Trapl rate: $100.00*/hour
- Dr. Borawski rate: $100.00*/hour
- Technical Assistance rate: $35.00*/hour
- Data Entry rate: $20.00*/hour

Personal Digital Assistants (2 week minimum rental)
- 1-15 PDAs: $25/2 weeks OR $40/month
- 16-30 PDAs: $22.50/2 weeks OR $36/month
- 31+ PDAs: $20/2 weeks OR $32/month
