The CF Ibuprofen Laboratory was formed to provide ibuprofen analyses
and therapeutic recommendations for cystic fibrosis patients.
It facilitates physicians in performing an Ibuprofen Test, which
is used to determine the appropriate dose of ibuprofen for individual
patient ibuprofen therapy.
The CF Ibuprofen Laboratory provides instructions and supplies
to the physician and clinic. They, in turn, administer a known
dose of ibuprofen to the patient, draw four blood specimens (isolating
plasma from blood) at known times and ship the plasma specimens
to the CF Ibuprofen Laboratory. The CF Ibuprofen Laboratory analyzes
the plasma specimens and returns the results, along with a pharmacokinetic
interpretation and recommendation, to the physician.
To initiate this service, the physician needs to fax the CF Ibuprofen
Laboratory the following information: physician's name, phone
and fax number, the hospital or clinic where the Ibuprofen Test
is to be performed, and the name(s) of the patient(s) to be tested.
When this information is received, the CF Ibuprofen Laboratory
will return fax an Information Form for each individual patient,
in which additional information (e.g. billing information) is
requested. Physicians and healthcare professionals who want to request kit(s) for their patients can find out how to do so by checking out our request
test kit page. When all the required information is received, the
CF Ibuprofen Laboratory will ship to the physician a Test Kit, containing the supplies and instructions
necessary to perform the test.
The total cost of the service is $170 per complete Ibuprofen Test. The CF Ibuprofen Laboratory can offer this test at low cost provided that staff effort is not consumed by management of collectible accounts. Therefore, our policy requires payment in full with specimens shipped to the CF Ibuprofen Laboratory. Personal checks, business checks, and cashier's checks are acceptable forms of payment. We will also accept payment from the referring clinic. The CF Ibuprofen Laboratory will return to the payer an itemized invoice including appropriate CPT codes to assist the payer in obtaining insurance reimbursement. Additional payment information will be included in the Test Kit.
