Albert L. Waldo, M.D.

The Walter H. Pritchard Professor of Cardiology, Professor of Medicine, and Professor of Biomedical Engineering, Case

Fellowships in cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City.

Dr. Waldo is a founding member and past president of the North American Society of Pacing and Electrophysiology (now called the Heart Rhythm Society), and has served as president of the Cardiac Electrophysiology Society. He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology (he is a Past President of the Ohio Chapter), the American College of Chest Physicians, the American Heart Association, and the American College of Physicians. He is a member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation, the Association of American Physicians, and the Association of University Cardiologists.

Dr. Waldo's research in the field of cardiac arrhythmias is well known. He has over 600 publications, and in 1997, he received the Distinguished Scientist Award from the North American Society of Pacing and Electrophysiology. Dr. Waldo serves or has served on the editorial boards of most peer reviewed journals in the field, including Circulation, Journal of the American College of Cardiology, American Journal of Cardiology, Pacing and Clinical Electrophysiology, Journal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology, Journal of Electrocardiology, Heart Rhythm, and the audio journals of the American College of Cardiology (ACCEL), and the North American Society of Pacing and Electrophysiology (NASPETapes), of which he was editor-in-chief. He recently received The William Dock Master Teacher Award in Medicine from his Alma Mater, and an Award for Achievements in Clinical and Experimental Cardiology from The Foundation Hartsvrienden RESCAR of The Netherlands.

Dr. Waldo’s extensive public service has included committee membership in the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute Cardiovascular A and B Study Sections and the American Medical Association’s Diagnostic and Therapeutic Technology Assessment Program. He has served on the American College of Cardiology’s Electrophysiology/Electrocardiology/ Pacemaker committee, annual scientific session program committee, national nominating committee, and Board of Governors. He currently serves as a consultant to the Circulatory System Devices Panel of the Medical Devices Advisory Committee of the FDA, and as a member of the Electrical Signaling, Ion Transport, and Arrhythmias (ESTA) Study Section of the NIH/NHLBI.
